They originated by\u00a0weathering of\u00a0volcanic rocks; the\u00a0process of\u00a0bentonitization took place mainly in\u00a0alkaline environment. Montmorillonite (smectite) adds rheological and\u00a0sorption properties to\u00a0clay.<\/p>\n Individual deposits were formed by\u00a0alteration of\u00a0andesite and\u00a0rhyolite volcanic activity products.
