PETLIT is a Slovak product made from high-quality Slovak bentonites. By selecting quality raw materials and the way of their processing creates a first-class bentonite litter. PETLIT is produced and supplied in two color shades, olive – “PETLIT olive” and gray – “PETLIT gray”.

BENTONITES

Bentonites are clay rocks with motmorillonite (smectite) as the predominant mineral. They originated by weathering of volcanic rocks; the process of bentonitization took place mainly in alkaline environment. Montmorillonite (smectite) adds rheological and sorption properties to clay.

Individual deposits were formed by alteration of andesite and rhyolite volcanic activity products. Bentonite genesis affects the quality parameters of the individual types of bentonites.

Processing of bentonites in the processing plant in Žiar nad Hronom deals ENVITAZ division within ENVIGEO company.

Use of bentonites

• in the foundry industry – appropriate for preparing foundry sand mixtures for gray cast-iron and non-ferrous metal castings
• in metallurgy as binder for pelletizing a briquetting ores
• in ecological constructions as a mineral seal
• in agriculture (carrier and emulsifier of pesticides and growth stimulators, binder for granular feed and seed, melioration of light sandy soil, powdering of highly hygroscopic fertilizers, production of concentrated suspension fertilizers, etc.)
• in electrotechnics as an excellent earthing switch for improving of soil conductivity (e.g. grounding of gas piping)
• in the building industry (underground constructions, drilling, grouting, sealing of shaft walls, building of water wells, founding of constructions, preparation of water-proof concrete, asphalt filler, etc.)
• besides the above mentioned applications, bentonite can be also used in several other industries (chemical, wine, distillery, dye, paper, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, vinegar, ceramic, enamel, etc.)
